I n t r o d u c t i o n

This page has been created for the following purposes :

To highlight the shutdown of cwc.net domains by Boltblue
Provide a bridging page from the now defunct cwc.net to my new hosts : www.copsewood.org (which also holds content for the domains www.mpmunro.co.uk & www.pumpsrus.co.uk & www.windmonitoring.co.uk) and www.welshmines.org (previously existant as a domain only) predominantly for the search engines, and those who are trying to restore links to my website - in April 2009, according to Google, there were over 2,500 external links to mike.munro.cwc.net web pages.

Without any prior warning or notification, the cwc.net domain, as hosted/adminitered by Boltblue permanently disappeared around mid-April 2009.
Attempts to understand if this was permanent state of affairs failed - perhaps major maintenance was underway, or transfer to another ISP was in progress ? Boltblue werecontacted in writing and by e-mail, neither of which managed to solicit a response of any form - an appology would have been a start ! A search on the web (including the domain www.boltblue.com) also failed to find any announcement about Boltblue's actions or intentions.
The net outcome being that out of the blue (like a bolt of...) ['scuse the puns] I had to find a new host and transfer some ten years of accumulated web pages - as one would likely imagine, I was not exactly the happiest of chappies !

H i s t o r y (of cwc.net)

1998 : CWC.Net (Cable and Wireless Communications) offered web hosting and e-mail service (free of charge) to those who had a C&W phone account, (I did !) while the internet was going through its very own expansive big bang.

1999-2000 : CWC decided to sell off this part of their business (i.e. their 'consumer' customers in the UK) to NTL, and (initially at least), there was no real change for the end users.
[Note that NTL were after the cable customers, not those using using the ISP services of C&W. Also, it wasn't made clear to ex-CWC customers that NTL had only pledged to continue to support them until Nov. 2001.]

2001 Sept : NTL notified their ex-C&W non-cable users that they would no longer be maintaining their web hosting and e-mail services. [PANIC !!] News Report

2001 Nov : NTL notified users that Boltblue had agreed to take over these accounts (all 90,000 of them) from NTL, all was not lost ! [PANIC over !] News Report and another one.
[Note that domain names remained unchanged, but users gained a new e-mail address, so not only did Punter@cwcom.net continue to work, (for receiving e-mails) but the user also had, Punter@boltblue.com for sending and receiving e-mails.]

2006 ?? : At some point, the ability to receive Punter@cwcom.net e-mails was discontinued. Users were not notified of this change.

2009 (Easter) : At some point around this time (and certainly from 14.04.2009) it appears that all cwc.net domains, (and boltblue.net) as hosted by Boltblue, ceased to be accessible, or even exist. ...without any warning, or notification, whatsoever !

Postscript :
- Boltblue continue to offer services to mobile users, but web hosting isn't one of these.
- As of Feb 2012, the cwcom.net is still owned, and used by Boltblue - entering http://www.cwc.net into your browser takes you direct to Boltblue !
